The 24-year-old right-hander, known as “Miz,” silenced the Yankees, who entered the game as the highest-scoring team in the American League. Over six innings, he allowed no runs and fired 10 pitches clocked at 103 mph or faster, with three reaching 103.6 mph — the fastest velocity ever recorded by a starting pitcher since Statcast began tracking in 2008.
“It’s just an adrenaline thing,” Misiorowski told reporters after the game. “That’s all it is. I think you just start getting hyped up, and you want to perform for your team that’s behind you, because you know they’re doing the same for me. That’s the whole goal.”
Of his 95 pitches, 66 were strikes. He lowered his ERA to 2.45 and now leads the majors with 70 strikeouts and 17 walks over 44 innings this season.
Before Friday, MLB starting pitchers had combined for just three pitches of at least 103 mph in the Statcast era, including one from Misiorowski in his previous outing against the Washington Nationals on May 1. The previous fastest pitch thrown by a starter since 2008 was 103.2 mph by Jordan Hicks on July 12, 2022. Misiorowski surpassed that mark seven times in the first two innings alone.
This was Misiorowski’s second consecutive scoreless start. He threw 43 pitches at 100 mph or faster in 5 1/3 shutout innings against the Nationals, though he left that game due to a right hamstring cramp. On Friday, he chatted with Hall of Fame pitcher CC Sabathia before the game, who was inducted into the Brewers’ Wall of Honor that evening.
Misiorowski improved to 3-2 this season for the Brewers (20-16), who are in the thick of a competitive NL Central race.
