The situation of Roger Machado at São Paulo is becoming increasingly precarious, according to analysts on the CNN program *Convocação CNN*. A winless streak and underwhelming performances have intensified pressure on the coach, who critics say was already in a disadvantageous position from the start of his tenure.
During the program, a website called ForaRogerMachado.com.br was shown, featuring a countdown timer betting on his dismissal. Notably, the page was created before Machado even coached his first match for the club.
Raul Moura: “He Arrived Already Fired”
Commentator Raul Moura was blunt in his assessment. “Unfortunately, in Brazilian football, he arrived already fired,” he said, referring to fan pressure and the circumstances surrounding the departure of the previous coach, which reportedly involved internal issues.
Moura also noted that the coach “doesn’t help himself,” pointing to vague press conferences and poor on-field results—four games without a win. “We play a terrible derby, then in the press conference it’s the same softness as always,” he criticized. He concluded that after the break for the World Cup, it will be difficult for Roger Machado to remain in charge of São Paulo.
Political Issues and Instability at the Club
Host Jairo Nascimento suggested that one factor that might keep Roger Machado in his job longer is the internal political situation at São Paulo. According to him, the board is focused on resolving debt and administrative issues, and a coaching change at this point could worsen the instability. “That instability, combined with the instability of changing coaches, could harm the Tricolor environment even more,” he evaluated.
Nevertheless, Jairo also acknowledged that the World Cup break represents the ideal moment for a potential dismissal. “It’s the perfect storm,” he said, explaining that a new coach would have over 50 days—more than a typical preseason—to begin work before the league resumes.
