Artur Akhtyamov made 20 saves on 22 shots in the decisive Game 5 of the AHL playoff series against the Laval Rocket, leading the Toronto Marlies to a 3-2 victory and a 3-2 series win.
The 24-year-old Russian goaltender started the pivotal matchup and helped the Marlies—Toronto’s AHL affiliate—advance to the division finals. There, they will face the Cleveland Monsters, the Columbus Blue Jackets’ farm team, in a best-of-three series.
In the current Calder Cup playoffs, including the first round, Akhtyamov has played six games, recording four wins with a 91.7% save percentage and a 2.17 goals-against average.
